The Edible Forest – Forest Gastroexpress uniquely connects the Bükk forests, nature knowledge and local gastronomy.

Participants explore the forest with a professional guide, learning about edible plants, mushrooms and the functioning of the forest ecosystem. The experience is complete at the end of the tour, when guests can taste dishes made with Bükk ingredients at the Michelin-recommended Végállomás Bistro & Wine restaurant.

The Miskolc initiative proved to be the best in a serious international field
The Edible Forest – Forest Gastroexpressz project was selected among the TOP6 finalists from hundreds of applications, alongside well-known destinations such as Bohinj (Slovenia), Lanzarote (Spain), Niseko (Japan), Pärnu (Estonia) and Isabela de Basilan (Philippines). With the victory, Miskolc has entered the global forefront of sustainable tourism innovations.

The application material was prepared by MIDMAR Nonprofit Kft., which operates Visit Miskolc, with the professional support of InnoTime Hungary Kft.

The Edible Forest – Forest Gastroexpress program is a defining element of Miskolc’s new, sustainable tourism image.
The concept is based on bringing natural ingredients found in the Bükk forests – such as mushrooms, berries, herbs or game – to the table in a sustainable way, with the involvement of local catering establishments. The initiative was born from the cooperation of the Bükki Kör, which brings together chefs, winemakers, accommodation providers, foresters and creative professionals. The idea was conceived by forester Gyula Bózsó, and one of the important venues of the program is the Végállomás Bistro & Wine, as well as the Hotel Palota Lillafüred, which is the first Good Travel Seal sustainability-certified hotel in the region.

The success of the project also proves that Miskolc is now much more than a one-day excursion destination. Active tourism, gastronomic experiences and attractions such as the Ellipsum Adventure Bath are increasingly making the city a multi-day destination. More information about the “Edible Forest” program and current events can be found on the official website of the Forest Gastroexpress.
